How can you extend the life of your tires?

Data recorded for passenger car tires (205/55 R16) in the UK between 2006 and 2011 showed that the average service life for front axle tires was approximately 36,554 ± 5,851 km , and about 63,690 ± 8274 km when mounted on tires on the rear axle. The service life of trucks is greatly affected by the type of use: in the case of slow speed travel and long distances on highways, it can reach up to 600,000 km; performance of up to 70,000 km can be achieved in short-haul and delivery trucks with large and low-speed maneuvers, frequent turns, frequent braking and accelerated service life. 9 factors mainly affect the service life of tires (as well as the fuel consumption of vehicles):
  • Tire type: The softer the tire, the higher the pressure on the road. This leads to more fuel consumption and faster wear due to higher friction. In addition, to minimize wear, the tire must compensate for the slip that occurs during cornering by deforming instead of sliding on the road.
  • Temperature: It is estimated that a 1 °C change in temperature between 10 °C and 40 °C corresponds to a 0.6% change in rolling resistance.
  • Inflationary Pressure: According to Goodyear's calculations, every 0.7 bar of underinflation increases fuel consumption by 1% due to higher friction with the road surface.
  • Driving Style: Smooth and slow accelerations and decelerations reduce wear and increase tire life.
  • Road type: Driving in mountains or cities causes more wear and tear than on highways and significantly reduces life expectancy.
  • Road conditions: Gravel and unpaved roads cause more tire wear than smooth roads.
  • Tire location: Front-mounted tires wear more than non-steerable tires.
  • Wheel Alignment: Incorrect alignment of the wheels leads to more wear and more fuel consumption (up to +4.5% on skewed wheels and up to +18.5% on non-parallel wheels).
  • Tread depth: The thinner the tread depth, the lower the friction resistance and wear. To increase the durability of tires, some manufacturers increase the depth of the tread, which, as a result, increases rolling resistance, tire pressure and fuel consumption. Taking into account the quality of the roads of Uzbekistan, the ASKO company offers you the most correct depth of tires.
